Youth Section

Covenham Sailing club actively encourages young people to take part in
all activities. To make sure young people get the most from the club, there
is a very active youth sailing section. This meets every Wednesday evening
to follow the RYA syllabus in dinghy sailing from when the clocks change
in the spring until they change back to GMT in the Autumn-even then if the weather is kind we keep sailing until the end of October on Saturdays.

On Thursday evenings there is the opportunity for the youngsters to take
part in the "Covenham Paddle club"  to follow the BCU PAddlsport and star
award training scheme and "Covenham Windsurf club" where youngsters follow the RYA windsurf syllabus and can participate in the Team 15 activities.

To take part all young people must  be a level one ability in their chosen
sport. Beginners courses in dinghy sailing are offered throughout the season. The
courses follow the RYA young sailors scheme and are designed to build skills
up so that you can enjoy sailing safely.

2008 sees us offering activities during the school holidays
- Easter
- Spring Half term
- Summer
Keep your eyes open for posters and news here on our web page.

As well as being RYA accredited for dinghy sailing we are offering
- Powerboat handling courses
- Kayaking courses
- Windsurf taster sessions and courses
- Dinghy sailing from beginner to national level

The courses are valid for
- Duke of Edinburgh
- School record of achievements
- Scout & Guiding awards

To name but a few.

The main aim though, is to bring new blood to the club and to provide young
people from the area with the opportunities to try the sports we offer and
to take them to the level they choose. Already some of our members are part
of the National Squad.

As part of the RYA we are part of a scheme whereby anyone interested can
start racing and visit competitions at other clubs. We even host some competitions.
Members of the National coaching squad listen to our recommendations and
visit to offer training and advice to our members. But if you just want
fun-thats still OK. The choice is yours.

Each Youth session is £4,   a session is an evening, a morning or an afternoon.
